The Glasshouse, Leamington Spa

The Glasshouse, Leamington Spa

I’m fortunate that I live only a short drive from this beautiful public project called ‘The Glasshouse’. It’s a glorified greenhouse or a miniature Eden project, depending on how you’d like to look at it. Situated in Jephson Gardens in Leamington Spa, the air is warm and tropical-like and the little water feature, goldfish, exotic plants and bright spaces make it an interesting place to visit. It’s only tiny so it’s not suitable for a full day out or anything like that but I spent around an hour one afternoon collecting photos of some of the more unusual plants. I also supplemented this with a little bit of work in the gardens themselves and trying to photograph water – notoriously difficult!

I have no idea what the prickly pink flower is called but it’s rather amazing! The first image of it reminds me rather of a firework; the second looks like something you’d find on the seabed of a beautiful coral; and the third resembles what happened to my hair when I singed in on a naked flame the other evening!

The papermache creatures are all made by local school children and there were many there which I didn’t photograph (or I did but the photos didn’t turn out great). I particularly loved the little penguin shown in the very last picture. Although why he’s holding sheet music remains a mystery!
